ADMISSION AS A CHANGE OF AREA STUDENT
Admission is open to all qualified high school graduates, or holders of the General Equivalency Diploma. In the event a student does not meet the entrance requirements for Surgical Technology, he or she may enroll in Liberal Arts. College placement tests in English, math and reading must have been taken, and remedial courses completed, before entering the Surgical Tech. program. Students must take a minimum of 16 credits before being considered for change of area to Surgical Technology studies. These credits should include:
ENG 101 MATH ELECTIVE AHS 131
This does not guarantee acceptance into the Surgical Technology program. All prospective students will be evaluated and given equal consideration for change of area.
It is strongly recommended that sciences taken more than five years prior to program entry be repeated.
Currently attending students who wish to enter the Surgical Technology program should call the Allied Health Sciences Department and meet with an advisor from their intended major area as early as possible in the academic year before they plan to begin their Surgical Technology studies. All applicants are expected to follow the prescribed sequence of AHS courses as indicated in the curriculum outline, and must satisfy the clinical education requirements as scheduled.
