The program is designed to provide academic and clinical education which will prepare graduates to assume the duties of a physical therapist assistant including: |
Pain relieving physical therapy modalities (specialized equipment), including, but not limited to heat, cold, sound, light, water, electrical and mechanical. (ex. ultrasound, electrical stimulation) |
Therapeutic exercises and exercise equipment to improve strength, endurance, coordination and range of motion. (ex. exercises following surgery or for low back pain) |
Gait and balance training (walking) using a variety of adaptive aids such as walkers, crutches, etc. (ex. teaching a child or an adult after a hip fracture to walk.) |
Manual procedures, including but not limited to mobilization, massage and developmental progression. (ex. moving a painful shoulder, teaching a child how to crawl) |
Training in activities of daily living and functional skills. (ex. managing curbs, bathrooms, etc.) |
Measurements of patient's abilities such as Range of Motion and Manual Muscle Testing. |
Documentation of treatments |
Patient and staff communication |
