Overview of the Academic Assessment Process at NCC
Academic assessment at NCC is comprised of several distinct but integrated processes under the broad categories of Program-Level Assessment and Course-Level Assessment. Regarding Program Assessment, full review of each NCC degree-granting program occurs every six to seven years, with follow-up assessments at specified intervals between full reviews. Regarding course assessment, departments develop unique six-year Departmental Assessment Plans to assess their courses and student learning on an ongoing basis. Assessment of General Education competencies, under the guidance of the SUNY-wide GEAR initiative, is integrated into the departments’ annual assessment activities. These data are collected by the Office for Assessment and Program Review on an ongoing basis within the SUNY-approved campus plan, and are required to be reported to SUNY in triennial campus reports.
