The Nassau Community College Foundation is an eleemosynary corporation formed specifically to promote the mission of the College. The Foundation is structured to meet the ever-increasing demands of the future by providing an independent avenue to receive philanthropic aid. Such assistance insures the continuing development of the College, its varied programs and numerous scholarship awards for students. The Foundation will accept, hold, invest, reinvest and administer any gifts, bequests or trusts that benefit the College. The Foundation disburses funds for the purpose of making awards to students and faculty development programs. Various activities, which enrich the educational programs of the College, receive continuing Foundation support. In some instances, the Nassau Community College Foundation functions as a fiduciary agent for the receipt of grants written by faculty and professional staff members.
A major focus of the Foundation’s activities is the scholarship programs. Direct support to the students assists in the fulfillment of their educational goals. The Foundation has distributed more than $400,000 in scholarships in each of the last ten academic years, thereby supporting student achievement, insuring minority participation and assisting in academic excellence. More than four hundred scholarships are awarded each year at the Presidential Award Ceremonies in the fall and spring semesters. At these presentations, student recipients, donors, Board of Director members, and representatives from learned societies gather to celebrate our students' achievements. Additionally, programs in faculty development, cultural and leadership activities are funded as enrichment to all areas of the College through the auspices of the Foundation efforts.
The Foundation is instrumental in the management of Federal, State, local and independent grant awards insuring the fiscal management and meeting required audit standards. The Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Directors composed of prominent members of the business and professional community, each of whom is dedicated to the goals of higher education and to the success of Nassau Community College and its students. Board members are chosen to assist in the Foundation’s outreach activities and are steadfast in their willingness to meet the financial and administrative requirements of the Foundation’s efforts.
Serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Nassau Community College Foundation provides a unique opportunity to participate in the life of the College. In the coming years the Nassau Community College Foundation will share an active role in promoting the College goals.
